Fridge Freezer Changing the Bulb: Troubleshooting No Light

⚠️ SAFETY MESSAGE: Always disconnect the appliance from the mains power supply before attempting any inspection or repair. Internal components can carry high voltage even when the unit seems "off." If you are unsure, consult a qualified engineer.

If your fridge light has gone out, it’s usually just a simple bulb replacement. However, if a new bulb doesn’t solve the problem, you may have an issue with the door switch or the light holder itself.

How to Change the Bulb:

  1. Remove the Lens: Locate the plastic light lens cover inside your fridge. Most will either unscrew or have a small clip that you can gently pry open.

  2. Unscrew the Bulb: Once the cover is off, unscrew the old bulb.

  3. Replace: Screw in your new bulb (ensure it is the correct wattage and fitting for your model).

  4. Refit: Clip or screw the plastic lens cover back into place.

What if the light still doesn’t work?

If a fresh bulb doesn't fix it, there are three common areas to check next:

  • The Door Switch: This is the small plunger-style button that the door hits when it closes. If it’s stuck or the internal contacts have failed, the light won't turn on. You can test this for continuity with a multimeter.

  • The Light Holder: Look for any signs of heat damage or charring. Over time, the wiring inside the holder can become brittle or disconnected.

  • Voltage Test: Using a multimeter, you can check if power is even reaching the holder. If there’s no voltage when the door is open, the fault lies further back in the wiring or the switch.

Easy to do just unscrew the plastic light lens cover and unclip it then unscrew the bulb , screw in replacement bulb and them refit the plastic lens cover.

if this fails see if light holder has damaged and you could test it for voltage as the holder wiring might be damaged or the switch ( door operated ) might be faulty.
